Homework is meant to be an opportunity for Kindergartners to practice the skills they have been learning in school in a quiet environment with a caring adult. For this reason, we will not typically send home worksheets. Beginning in January, Kindergarten students should: *Read 20 minutes EVERY day (This time includes the Kindergartner reading to you, bedtime stories, reading together...) *Write for 20 minutes 3 or more times per week. Kindergartners should be able to draw a detailed picture and write 3 or more sentences about it. Writers should sound out unknown words and write our high-frequency words correctly. Writers, then, read their stories to an audience and celebrate. Feel free to bring your writing to school to share! *Complete 10 minutes of "skill" word daily. Inside your Kindergartner's folder, you will find quarterly expectations sheets for English-Language Arts and Math. Use those sheets to guide your practice and help your child be successful in school! |
